To use, remove any rust from the test surface in advance. Press and rub the tester against the material — if it leaves a scratch, the material's hardness is less than or equal to the hardness level indicated on the tester.

If no scratch appears, use the next harder tester to determine the correct range.

Each tester tip is bent for easy contact with flat, curved, or inner surfaces.
